A speculative memory backup interface with social use.
This page frames the project as both critical design and practical reflection on digital memory care.

FORMAT

Interactive artwork + service prototype
A single website that operates as both speculative interface and applied care proposal.

CONCERN

Digital memory care
It addresses how people live with fragmented traces after storage has become effortless.

INTERVENTION

Slow sorting instead of endless accumulation
The prototype turns backup into a ritual of choosing, annotating, delaying, and sometimes releasing.

ETHICS

Relational consent and incompleteness
Its core ethic is that not every memory should move forward in the same way.
Design method
  1. step 01

Translate platform leftovers into a visible archive of fragments

  2. step 02

Introduce prompts that ask for context, ownership, and boundaries

  3. step 03

Reframe memory actions as keep, share, seal, or let go

  4. step 04

End with an intentionally incomplete capsule rather than a promise of total preservation

Possible application contexts

Independent reflective tool for personal memory organization

Conversation aid in family archiving or digital inheritance planning

Speculative exhibit interface in museums, media art, or critical design contexts

Background背景
Many personal memories now exist as digital fragments across platforms: cloud albums, chat apps, social media, voice messages, and location histories. These fragments are easy to store but difficult to emotionally organize.
Social Problem
Digital memory systems are designed for storage, not for grief, consent, context, or careful inheritance.
Design Question
How can a website help people organize digital memories without turning memory into surveillance, data extraction, or artificial resurrection?
Target Users
  • Young people with large amounts of unsorted digital memories
  • People who want to preserve memories for future selves or family members
  • People dealing with relationship changes, migration, loss, or distance
  • People who want to manage digital traces more consciously
Proposed Intervention
A speculative memory backup interface that helps users sort, annotate, seal, share, and let go of digital memories.
Ethical Position
This project does not generate fake conversations with the dead. It does not simulate a loved one. It does not promise immortality.
It treats memory as contextual, relational, and incomplete.
Rather than imagining technology as a way to restore the past completely, this project asks how interface design might help people carry memory forward with more care, more ambiguity, and less extraction.
